50 Simple, Inexpensive Ways to Beat Stress

What do you do when you feel stressed? Do you vent? Hold it in? Eat? Sleep? Have a breakdown? None of the above? How about this? What should you do when you're stressed? Well, I'm glad you asked. Why not try out some of the following suggestions to see if any of them can help you get a handle on things. I mean what do you have to lose, other than stress?

1. Pray.

2. Meditate.

3. Take a few slow, deep breaths.

4. Write down the problems that have you stressed -- along with reasonable resolutions.

5. Talk things over with someone you trust.

6. Find some inspirational quotations to lift your spirits.

7. Go for a swim.

8. Watch a funny movie.

9. Feel like crying? Go ahead, let it out.

10. Sing a cheerful song (out loud).

11. Take a long bath.

12. Help somebody who's worse off.

13. Work a puzzle.

14. Can you draw? Then, draw something.

15. Write down 3 things you're grateful for.

16. Play with your dog/cat.

17. Laugh out loud.

18. Do some yardwork.

19. Listen to your favorite kind of music.

20. Punch your pillow like there's no tomorrow.

21. Sit down and watch some cartoons.

22. Play card games.

23. Take a walk.

24. Cut yourself some slack. Seriously.

25. Snap some funny pictures.

26. Email the funny pictures to friends.

27. Imagine yourself in a serene location.

28. Tell someone a joke or two.

29. If you're musically inclined and have an instrument to play, play it.

30. Realize something: what appears to be a crises, usually isn't.

31. Do some housework.

32. Massage your face.

33. Reprioritize.

34. Take a little time and do nothing.

35. Have a lunch/dinner date with a loved one.

36. Get some clay and make something.

37. Spend quality time with your spouse and/or kids.

38. Recollect happier days.

39. Take a nap.

40. Whistle. Nothing like a good whistle to confuse the mind when it's giving you tons of reasons to be upset.

41. Get a massage.

42. If you need more help with daily tasks, ask for it.

43. Start a journal. Works wonders.

44. Spend some time in the hot tub.

45. Loosen up. Maybe you're taking things way too seriously.

46. Give yourself a pedicure.

47. Look in the mirror and say 3 nice things to yourself.

48. Hug a loved one.

49. Hit a punching bag.

50. Make your own list of ways to beat stress.

Because we're all different, we deal with things differently. Including stress. There are so many more ways to get a handle on the stress in our lives. The list is endless. Nonetheless, I hope my suggestions have offered you more help than you had and if nothing else have gotten you to consider taking stress management seriously, however you decide to do it.

Great suggestions - quite a lengthy list too. I tend to go outside of the house and just walk around in the yard or do some gardening. It works well. The great thing is there's less weeds and the garden looks better after I'm done.

DeviousOne, thanks a bunch for stopping by. Yeah, something like yardwork can get your mind off of stressful things. Or household chores. I remember one day not too long ago, feeling stressed out and down, and not really wanting to wash dishes but needed to. And I realized after I was done that my mind had completely moved away from the things that had me upset. I busyed my hands and my mind got a small break. And walking is also a great way to relieve stress. Thanks for commenting.
