God, I Want to Hear Your Voice
71
Many books have been written on the subject of being able to hear the voice of God. Many sermons preached and many notes taken. Yet God's people are still asking the question, "How do I hear from God?"
Before we answer this question, let's first settle a couple of things. First off, we need to be sure to note that it is the will of God that His people be able to hear His voice. And He wants us to be able to hear His voice regularly, not every once in a while.
Next, we should ponder this: has God been speaking to us and we've not been listening? We can all answer that question with a 'yes'. For God speaks to us in many ways and we are often unaware.
However, if you really want to know how to hear from the Father of Heaven on a consistent basis, here are a few things that WILL make this a reality in your life:
#1 You have to begin reading and studying your Bible daily. You can never expect to hear God's voice if you are not acquainted with His Word. His Word is the tool through which we become familiar with the voice of God. How would you know it was God speaking to you, if you were not familiar with His Word? If you're not willing to get into the Bible, don't waste your time expecting Him to speak to you. He speaks through the Bible first and foremost, and if you're not seeking His voice through His Word, you won't find it anywhere else. Acts 17:10-11(KJV) says, "And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." They searched the scriptures daily and so must we.
#2 Ask Him to speak and expect to hear from Him. Hebrews 11:6(KJV) says, " But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." Ask Him to speak to you, then expect that He will. Wait for Him, and He will not disappoint you.
#3 Obey once He has spoken to you. Obedience. What a scary word. Right? Sometimes it is frightening and hard to obey God, nonetheless, it is our obligation as Christians. And it carries with it great rewards. One of the rewards obedience to God affords us is the ability to hear from God again and again. If you are not willing to obey God once he speaks to you, you will not continue to hear from Him. He speaks to those He knows are ready and willing to obey. In John chapter 2, Jesus was attending a wedding, and when the wine ran short, Jesus' mother looked to Him to solve the problem. Look at what she said to people who were serving at the wedding. She said, "Whatsoever he (Jesus) saith unto you, do it." (John 2:5KJV) They obeyed, and they received. Obey what He speaks to you and you will hear from Him more and more.
God can speak to us in any way He so chooses. He speaks to us through others, through nature, through circumstances. He could speak to us through a donkey if He wanted to. But more times than not He is speaking to us through HIs Word. Listen for Him there, and you will hear Him.

Beautiful, thank you for sharing your heart. (Obey... There's that scary word again!) SO TRUE!
Thank you yvett, love the blog this my frist blog so please pray for me
thank you again
love this! It was really well written and some great advice and instruction! :)
Very nice hub. Thank you for sharing it.
Very nice information. God Bless You
You are to the point. I was enlightedned
I could not have explained it any better. God Bless You. I love you in the Lord.
Very true, refreshing too coming from younger people, letting the world know God is not going out of style. Polly
You correct
God can speak to us in any way He so chooses....
And he usually chooses the way that we hear him.
God speed
Yes, I agree that God wants us to hear His Voice. It is part of the plan.
Great hub, clear and Biblical.
I agree with #1, you've got to be in the Word as much as possible if you want to know God's will.
Not sure about #2. That verse, Hebrews 11:6, seems to be speaking about seeking salvation and God's blessings, but we know that God can also say "no" to our requests (except salvation - he will always do what's best for us).
I'm not going to rule out that God does speak to people personally in our day, but so far I haven't found anything in the New Testament to support that idea.
Recently I have come to understand that God was not speaking to me personally and now understand that God guides us through our love for him, knowing his Word and doing what he tells us, honoring him in all we do.
You're going to laugh maybe, I agree with #3 more than ever now that I have come away from the idea of personal leading, because I understand it is our own decisions that dictate how much God is involved in our lives. I think the better we know God, the more our minds are tuned into God and as a result we know his will more and more! #3 almost sends me back to #2!
I tell you though, I long to hear God's voice, and I know I will hear that voice when I get to heaven, and I long to please him in this life especially. Thanks for a beautiful hub. You have some great wisdom and it's great to meet another sibling in Christ.
So very true. The closer you walk with God, the more he will show you the path.
Although there are times in life when God chooses to remain silent. That is when we just have to trust him and stay in faith.
I agree Yolanda ;-)
Good reading. Knowledgable and wise.
yes the word of God is the key to hearing from God, after all he did send his word (Jesus) into this world to minister to people personally, and now his word is in our heart and in the bible so we have no excuse why we can't hear from God.
Hi Yolanda. I just clicked over here from facebook. You are so right about hearing God through His amazing Word! I sure hope He never has to talk to me through a donkey - what an embarrassment that would be! A beautiful hub!
I tell people that God sees from every eye, hears from every ear, and speaks through every mouth. God knows our thoughts, and so, when we think, we pray. God never leaves, for He is always with us. Knowing the scriptures is definitely a necessity, yet, also, the word is written inside each of us. Here is where we can hear God, but we have to trust to Him, and what was a still, small voice, becomes second nature. Peace
Great writing, I loved it...
Yes, obedience is scary, especially when we are so used to obedience being demanded with anger and impatience.
But God asks out of unconditional love. And what a beautiful difference that is.
